3. 2. 3. 4. Le papyrus Harris

Une autre source de renseignements pour cette période est consignée dans un papyrus. Une partie concerne les faits historiques du règne de Ramsès II. Les "Sherden (S'-r'-d'-n')" ⁶⁰⁹ font partie de l'armée égyptienne.

‘"I made Egypt into many classes, consisting of: butlers of the palace, great princes, numerous infantry, and chariotry, by the hundred-thousand; Sherden (S'-r'-d'-n'), and Kehek (Khk), without number, attendants by the ten-thousand; and serf-labourers of Egypt." ⁶¹⁰ ’

Plus loin, on lit le récit des guerres contre les Asiatiques du nord :

‘"I extended all the boundaries of Egypt; I overthrew those who invaded them from their lands. I slew the Denyen (D'-yn-yw-n') in their isles, the Thekel (T'-k-r') and the Peleset (Pw-r'-s'-ty) were made ashes. The Sherden and the Weshesh (W'-s-s) of the sea, they were made as those that exist not, taken captive at one time, brought as captives to Egypt, like the sand of the shore." ⁶¹¹ ’

Les peuples de ce texte ne se retrouvent pas dans les écrits que nous avons vus précédemment. En particulier, les Denyen qui viennent de plusieurs îles. Le papyrus Harris expose ensuite les conflits avec la Libye sans ajouter de détails à la version de Médinet Habu, sauf en ce qui concerne la liste des peuplades conquises :

‘"I laid low the Meshwesh, the Libyans, the Esbet ('-s'-b'-t'), the Keykesh (K'-y-k'-s'), the Shai (S'-y), the Hes (H'-s') and the Beken (B-k'-n'); they were overthrown in their blood and made heaps." ⁶¹² ’
