ERP effects of the age and gender discrimination tasks

The ERP correlates of age or gender processing on faces were analyzed in Student’s t-maps comparing the responses elicited in each of the discrimination tasks (Incidental-age, Intentional-age and Intentional-gender discrimination) with those elicited in the No-discrimination task. Significant effects were found in three latency ranges (45-90 msec, 145-185 msec and 200-400 msec) with differences depending on the nature of the task. The detailed statistical significances of the effects in each condition and each latency range are depicted in Figure 4 and quantified in Table 2; their scalp potential distributions and the corresponding t-maps are displayed at illustrative latencies in Figures 3B, 3C and 3D.
