Areas scores averaged across the 14 musician participants were high overall (.96 for related tonic, .95 for less related subdominant) and were not found different by a bilateral paired t-test (t(13) = 2.16; p = .37). The very high performance scores might result in a ceiling effect that would explain the lack of a tonal relatedness effect.
