3. Design and statistical analyses

Three types of analyses were performed between both groups on different dependent variables: 1) Hits (percentage of intentions correctly inferred) and Reaction Times (RTs) for the first group of analyses, 2) a score reflecting the effect of the bias on participants’ performances for the second group of analyses, and last, 3) a score accounting for the effect of varying the amount of visual information on participants’ performance. Regression analyses were also conducted with the SANS, SAPS and disorganization scores as dependent variables and cognitive performances as explanatory factors.

Finally, for each of the 4 experiments and for each group of participants, two-tailed t-tests were performed between the two non-preferred intentions on both RTs and hits. As no significant differences appeared (all p>.05), performances for these two non-preferred intentions were pooled across for subsequent analyses.
