The present research mainly aimed at evaluating the time-course of salience effects, and the endogenous influences on these effects. First, a new, very simple, visual search paradigm was created, with a display of three items, either identical (homogeneous condition) or differing in size (heterogeneous condition). The first experiment aimed at evidencing genuine salience effects and at assessing their time-course. The following experiments evaluated the effects of relevance, either without perceptual priming (trial-wise cueing mode: Exp. 2), or with perceptual priming effects (block-wise cueing mode: Exp. 3).
