B.1.4.1.3. Procedure

Two blocks of trials, one for each kind of cue (perceptual vs. symbolic), were presented in counterbalanced orders. Each trial began with a cue presented for 800 ms. It was followed by a black screen for 1000 ms. Then, the same three square search array as in the Experiment 1 (heterogeneous condition) appeared, and remained on screen until the response (identical to the first experiment). Both cue-type blocks consisted of 216 trials, in three parts separated by two breaks of durations chosen by the participants. There were 72 trials by relevance condition (random, large-relevant, small-relevant), randomly distributed. RTs less than 200 ms and more than 2000 ms were discarded, considered as anticipation or inattention responses. Discarded trials accounted for less than 2 % of the total number of trials.
