Proudhon qui dépassent notre période d’étude, de 1830 à 1852, puisque le dernier ouvrage ici pris en compte, De la capacité des classes ouvrières, a été publié à titre posthume en 1865, mais écrit après 1860. Mais il nous a paru important de tenir compte de cette partie des écrits de P.-J. Proudhon pour deux raisons principales. Premièrement, ils s’inscrivent dans le prolongement de la pensée de l’association de l’auteur qui débute dès le début des années 1840 ; ils constituent en un sens un point d’aboutissement de l’idée d’association chez P.-J. Proudhon dans la mesure où il va reprendre à son compte le concept d’association pour l’intégrer dans sa théorie de la mutualité. Deuxièmement enfin, ces écrits sur l’association se référent encore en partie à la période « associationniste » des années 1840 ; ils s’opposent principalement à la littérature socialiste sur la question.
